So in the states, you know that duct tape can fix anything. Well, yesterday we were faced with a new challenge and definitely a new solution. We bought a big "honkin" generator about a month ago that provides power to 3 school buildings and our house. Just a couple of days ago, we finally did some rewiring (2 days with no power at home) to get our house all connected. The house had been on its own generator which was not as nearly as powerful and had issues when our hot water heaters were plugged in. Anyway, our generator finally gave up the ghost, and once we were connected we thought all of our problems were solved.
However, in order to run such a large generator, we need a lot of fuel, so we had a special tank built just for this purpose. Yesterday we had a big fuel truck come and fill our gigantic tank just to discover a leak. So all of the money the school had invested in the fuel was literally pouring out. As the title of this post implies, some people may have run for the duct tape, but since there was none to be found, our national friends introduced us to their "fix all" solution - raisins mixed with laundry soap. Yes, you read correctly. Apparently if you throw in a little water, it makes a nice paste, and it did not stop the leak completely, but it did slow it down enough so that we did not loose all the fuel in one night.
